What people are saying about the Excellence in BC Health Care Awards
I would like to thank you very much for the wonderful Golden Apple awards luncheon. It was an incredibly nice event – first class all the way! I appreciated everything very much including the corsage, our host Adrienne at our table, the video, wonderful hotel room….and especially the beautiful golden apple – it’s exquisite! The stories behind each award, and the stories artfully captured in each video, were truly inspiring. It was so nice to see the dedication and accomplishments of healthcare workers being recognized by so many groups including family, colleagues, private business, and senior administrators. Thank you so much!
~ Sue Filek (Interior Health), 2010 Workplace Health Innovation Gold Apple winner
Without a doubt this event was a highlight from my 22 years of working in healthcare on Vancouver Island. On arrival at the event I was greeted by a welcoming HEABC host where I was kindly escorted to a table set with class and elegance. The room was filled with a warm buzz from award recipients, leaders, team members, co-workers and family who all attended in support of meaningful work accomplished. The speakers and speeches were professional, concise, humorous and appreciated. The awards and mementos were very tasteful and something each recipient could take away and be very proud of - thank you HEABC for a job well done. It was indeed a wonderful way to be recognized. Thank you.
~ Tracy Larsen (VIHA), 2010 Workplace Health Innovation Award of Merit Recipient
I just want to thank you and the rest of the HEABC organizers of the luncheon. The speaker was right when he said that there are MANY good stories about people doing exceptional work that are rarely reported. I see it all the time among my colleagues. [Kelly Keating – Interior Health Healthcare Hero] was remarkable and most memorable. I spoke to him in the lobby afterwards and he was so humble and genuinely believed that the "over and above" he did and that was recognized by fellow staff, was simply normal for him. He does not realize that he is an exception. He goes WAY above his call of duty and job description and is so good natured about it. Thank you once again.
~ Claire Kirk, 2009 Northern Health Healthcare Hero & Provincial Healthcare Hero
On behalf of President Steve Whiteside and myself we would like to thank the
members of the HEABC for your generous donation towards patient services
through the ALS Society of BC & Yukon. Your help will provide more hope to
people living with ALS. The luncheon and podium agenda was organized impeccably. There was a lot to get through and you did so in a professional manner. We enjoyed the profiles of all the Golden Apple and Honourary Mention award recipients. It
is wonderful that leaders in healthcare receive recognition for their outstanding contributions.
~ Wendy Toyer, Executive Director, ALS Society of BC & Yukon (2009 Recipient of the “Giving Back to Healthcare” donation)
Thank you and HEABC for hosting such a great event. It is really wonderful to take the time to acknowledge all of those who go that extra mile to do good in the healthcare system. You all worked so hard and the event went off like a charm, well done!
~ Julie-Ann Solar, BC Academic Health Council
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you very much for the honour awarded to me yesterday at the 2008 Excellence in BC Healthcare Awards ceremony. So many people gave much of their time to make the event a huge success. Not only by yourselves, the Honourable Mr. Abbott, Dr. Hister, the judges (who had the most difficult task of choosing the recipients), the artist Robert Held, but also all the work done ‘behind-the-scenes’ by many staff members, volunteers, and sponsors. Everything went off very well. If there were any last minute panics, we were not aware of them. I appreciate how work much goes into organizing an event of this stature. The orchid, which was carefully pinned onto each recipient, was also a very nice touch that made us easily recognizable to the other winners and guests. Please pass my ‘thank you’ along to everyone who was involved! The ‘Gold Apple’ is a very beautiful piece of artwork. I will take great pride in displaying it. Today I have brought it into work with me. The members of the fitness class here at UBCH wanted to see it. If it weren’t for all the support they have given to me over these many years, I would not have been the lucky recipient of this award. Thank you again for honouring me as 2008’s Healthcare Hero for Vancouver Coastal Health.
~ Sharon Smith, 2008 Vancouver Coastal Health Healthcare Hero
I would like to thank everyone at HEABC for the incredible award that I was bestowed and the wonderful luncheon I attended. I was the recipient of the Healthcare Hero Award, and the beautiful "Gold Apple" award. I brought it to work to Royal Columbian Hospital today and presented at our RCH Nursing Professional Practice Council. It was with such great pride that I was bringing this award to my facility. Thank you so much for being so thoughtful and gathering all the tear sheets from the newspapers for me. I will cherish these mementos that marked such a wonderful day and gift from you all.
~ Anita Dickson, 2007 Inaugural Provincial Healthcare Hero
I just wanted to say thank you. Mary McNeil (BC Cancer Foundation CEO) was blown away. We were so impressed and touched by the event and the fact we were the first charity chosen to receive the donations.
~ Penny Noble, BC Cancer Foundation (2007 Recipient of the “Giving Back to Healthcare” donation)
